WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have barely put the finishing touches on its 2014 season and General Manager Kyle Walters is already negotiating new contracts. He resigned speedy returner Troy Stoudermire. The 24-year-old agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in the blue and gold through the 2017 season.

“As much as they wanted me, I wanted to a remain a Blue Bomber for a long time,” said Stoudermire in a media release from the football club.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

He joined the Bombers in June as a free agent after being a late cut at Saskatchewan Roughriders training camp.  He appeared in seven games in his rookie season and led the Bombers in combined yardage with 1,192 yards. He averaged a CFL best 171 yards per game.

“Troy Stoudermire is a game changer,” said Blue Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters. “We saw that plenty throughout this past season, that the second he gets his hands on the football, there is a potential for a scoring play. Those players are hard to find and when you do, you have to do your best to retain them. He’s a phenomenal athlete and we are pleased to have him in Winnipeg for the next three seasons.”
