REGINA – Saskatchewan is about mid-way through its flu shot campaign and health officials are impressed by this year’s turnout.

“What we’re hearing back from our regional health authorities is that it’s the strongest year so far. Great uptake,” said Dr. Saquib Shahab, Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer. “As of Tuesday morning, around half of the vaccine has already been administered.”

The province ordered 450,000 doses this season, which is about 20,000 more than it received last season.

Saskatchewan’s Minister of Health said he is not concerned about a shortage.

“We have ordered significantly more than we have in previous years,” said Dustin Duncan.

This is the first year for the province to implement a flu shot or mask policy. Health care workers who are not immunized are required to wear a mask in patient or client care areas during flu season.
