UPDATE: LTRA roof collapses due to snow

LETHBRIDGE- Organizers with the Lethbridge Therapeutic Riding Association (LTRA) are calling the collapse of its facilities roof a disaster. Through out a year, the organization sees roughly 350 riders go through it’s program, now the service has come to a standstill.

“The saddest thing is this impacts a lot of lives. Most of our clients come out here once a week to ride and they count on that,” says Board President, Cecile McCleary.

At around noon on Sunday, the roof of the LTRA building collapsed.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The building was empty at the time, no one was riding.

No people or horses were injured . There was one horse in a pen close to the arena that was scared but not hurt.

Atco came out and shut off the building’s gas and the power has been turned off.

The LTRA is now waiting to talk to their insurance company to find out an estimate of damages.

Riding classes have been cancelled until further notice.

It’s believed that heavy snow is to blame for the roof collapse.

The building has a quonset shaped roof. The part still standing is the stable area, the part leveled is the actual riding arena.

Lethbridge Therapeutic Riding association is located between Lethbridge and Coaldale.

It’s a not for profit organization, but has therapy horses and boarded horses.
