CALGARY- After a debate and vote, Wildrose MLA’s unanimously endorsed a resolution asking for a “withdrawal” of Danielle Smith’s request for a leadership review.

The Wildrose issued a release after a caucus meeting held Sunday, without Danielle Smith.

The resolution was put forward by Airdrie MLA Rob Anderson and afterwards he said the party thinks Smith is the best choice to move the party forward in the next election.

“I am humbled and honoured to have the unanimous support of my caucus colleagues. Our focus will now turn to the upcoming fall legislative session and the important work we need to do on behalf of Albertans,” Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith said.

“We will continue to hold the government to account and present positive alternatives that put Albertans first.”

A number of local political analysts say last week’s failure to win a by-election seat was serious cause for concern for the party.

Following last week’s vote, Wildrose leader Danielle Smith announced she was asking for a review of her own leadership, saying while she wants to stay on as leader, she needs to know she still has the confidence of her caucus.

It was also announced Sunday that Steve Rennick has been hired as Chief of Staff for the Wildrose Official Opposition.

Danielle Smith is expected to speak at a news conference scheduled Monday at 10 am.

The release comes on the same day that  Wildrose MLA Joe Anglin announced that he is leaving the party to sit as an independent.
