SASKATOON – Environment Canada says the first significant snowfall of the season will develop over southwestern areas of Saskatchewan Sunday.

A storm system in the United States is forecast to bring rain along the Saskatchewan-Alberta border overnight and into Sunday morning.

As colder air works its way into the system, precipitation will likely change into snow.

Much of the snow will melt on contact initially; however, it will likely start accumulating Sunday afternoon and into the evening.

Five to 10 centimetres is possible across much of the warning area.

Motorists are advised to be prepared for deteriorating travel conditions on highways Sunday, including the Yellowhead Highway between Saskatoon and the Alberta border.
