Notorious “nephew bandit” fraudster sentenced for three years

WATCH (above): Richard Earl Rupert, known as the “Nephew Bandit”, is sentenced for bilking seniors. John Daly has the story.

The man known as the ‘nephew bandit’ pleaded guilty this afternoon and was sentenced for more than 30 counts of fraud and robbery.

In April of last year, Langley RCMP released a warning about Richard Earl Rupert, saying he was targeting senior citizens in the community. He was sentenced to three years in jail, which he has already served 28 months. Rupert will have another eight months in prison before he is released. After his release, the 57-year-old will be on probation for three years and is banned from seniors residents, nursing homes and care facilities.

Rupert is known for targeting seniors across Canada and is alleged to have defrauded a 92-year-old Langley woman.

The woman was walking home from the grocery store when she was approached by a man who convinced her he was a family friend who needed money for car repairs.
