Camrose furniture store levelled in early-morning fire

Watch above: Fire rips through a Camrose furniture store Saturday morning.

EDMONTON — Firefighters are investigating after an early-morning blaze ripped through a business in downtown Camrose Saturday.

About 28 firefighters were called to the blaze at Ken’s Furniture around 4 a.m.

Camrose Fire Chief Peter Krich says the entire building was engulfed in large flames and heavy, black smoke by the time crews arrived on scene. It took firefighters about four hours to contain the blaze, Krich said.

Crews tried to keep the fire contained to the furniture store, but Krich says the nearby Malorie’s Cakes sustained some fire damage. The Ken’s Furniture building is a complete loss, Krich added.

Damages are pegged around $4 million. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
