GALLERY: Coquitlam residents get a visit from a curious bear

Hello?. Eleni Kondylenios-Robinson

Coquitlam resident Eleni Kondylenios-Robinson said she heard a loud noise on the stairs of her back porch on Thursday afternoon and when she looked outside she couldn’t believe her eyes.

A large black bear had made its way up the steps of her Dolphin Street home and was peering in the back door.

“He came up the back porch, grabbed the garbage pail, which is my diaper pail for my baby,” said Kondylenios-Robinson, “dragged it down the stairs and into the yard.”

Despite being so close to the house and her children Kondylenios-Robinson said it appears the bear was just being curious.

“He wasn’t being mean, he was just looking in,” she laughed.

She did call the Conservation Service but they told her they wouldn’t come out unless the bear didn’t leave.

However, after some time hanging out in the backyard and rummaging through the diaper pail, Kondylenios-Robinson said the bear casually climbed the fence and left her yard.

“I’ve heard about bear stories on the news,” she said, “but have never seen anything like this before.”
