Abbotsford couple want answers after cat shot and killed

VANCOUVER – Steve and Ella Allingham were devastated to learn one of their beloved cats, Daisy, was reportedly shot with a pellet gun last week. She died from her injuries.

“She had just turned eight last month,” said Steve. “And we bottle-fed her when she was four weeks old.”

Daisy had been an indoor cat most of her life, but five months ago Steve and Ella moved into a house near Ware Street and Robertson Avenue in Abbotsford and since then their Great Dane Cross and their five cats loved spending time outside in the yard.

“They stay in the yard and they would come when you call and we thought everything was great,” said Steve.

However, last Thursday, at about 1 a.m., Daisy had been sleeping in the yard when she jumped through the couple’s roommate’s window and woke him up.

“She was bleeding from the mouth and was very listless,” said Steve. “She remained responsive but we knew there was nothing we could do so we just kept her warm. She was just slipping away.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Daisy died by the morning and Steve said even if they had the means to take her to the vet during the night she would not have made it as they showed the vet photos of her wounds the next day.

No one in the house heard or saw anything but Steve said there was some damage on the fence where Daisy liked to walk.

“It looks like she was shot on the fence,” he said.

They have contacted the police and the SPCA but so far have no leads on who could have shot Daisy.

Steve said his wife is taking the news especially hard because she suffers from PTSD and is struggling to even think clearly since the incident.

“It’s really tough,” he said.

“At the very least I want this to be a public service announcement and to garner an investigation.”

If anyone has any information they can call Abbotsford Police at 604-859-5225 and quote file number 14-38885.
