UPDATE: Tzou has been found overnight and returned to his owner.
Last night, calls began to come in to the dog’s owner that Tzou had been spotted in the area of West Broadway and Heather Street.
As the owner’s search party descended on the neighbourhood, Tzou was spotted again, this time in the area of West 3rd Avenue and Cambie.
Under the watchful eye of a concerned citizen, he made his way to VPD headquarters where he was reunited with his owner.
VANCOUVER — Have you seen Tzou?
He’s a 160-pound, three-year-old Saint Bernard and was in his owner Kristyn Christiansen’s truck last night. Christiansen left his keys in the ignition of his Dodge truck for forty seconds, he said, as he ran into an ATM at Kiefer St. in Chinatown.
The truck was stolen, with Tzou in the cab. The vehicle has since been recovered, but Tzou was no where in sight.
“I don’t know how he would react,” Christiansen told Global News. “He would probably trust them,” he said, referring to the people who stole the vehicle.
Christiansen says Tzou is extremely friendly with both people and animals.
Since last night, Christiansen, his partner and their friends have been combing the Lower Mainland hunting for Tzou. The Dodge was found by one of Christiansen’s friends in the Kitsilano neighbourhood. There was no gas left in it and other valuable items such as a MacBook Pro, tools and a stereo were all taken.
The SPCA and Vancouver Police have been working with Christiansen to locate the animal.
“Hopefully somebody in their right mind and right heart will obviously return the animal to his parents,” said Christiansen.
