Practice patience during endless construction, says flagging association

VANCOUVER – If you are waiting for construction season to end as usual this time of year, you will have to wait a little longer.

The relief from construction delays on Metro Vancouver’s roads that usually come with back to school has not really materialized. In fact, this is one of the busiest fall construction seasons in years.

Many cities have more projects on the books and this endless summer means they can keep their crews out longer.

The bottom line for drivers, patience is still a virtue.

“You know, no disrespect to the good drivers, because there are still people you know that will acknowledge us and wave,” said  Diane Herbeck from the BC Flagging Association. “But the majority of people it seems like everybody’s in such a hurry and it’s getting worse.”

“With all the construction it’s getting worse. I drive through construction zones too and I get frustrated myself, but again, it’s something that we have to deal with. But with all the construction that’s been going on for so many months, you got the Evergreen Line, you’ve got all the other stuff going on and you can understand the public’s frustration to a certain extent, but a lot of the stuff these crews are doing are for the public.”
