WINNIPEG- A sea of blue berets could be seen marching around the city Sunday.

About a dozen women marched to the University of Winnipeg campus wearing distinctive uniforms to begin “gender toolkit” training mandated by the United Nations.

The training sessions are backed by volunteers including human rights students and will be on responses to sexualized gender based violence in conflict and post-conflict zones.

While the training usually takes place in New York and other UN bases, it came to Winnipeg after an invitation from Marilou McPhedran, the director of the institute for women’s rights at University of Winnipeg’s global college.
