RED DEER – A 26 year old is facing several Criminal Code charges after making a dash up the Telus tower in Red Deer’s Highland Green neighbourhood.
RCMP responded to a report of the man climbing the tower around 6:30 pm on Friday, September 20th.
When crews arrived, the man was on the second-highest platform of the tower.
According to RCMP an “inopportune” lighting storm was brewing at the same time, which delayed attempts to rescue the climber.
City Fire, EMS, RCMP and a Telus technician all attended the scene.
Telus had to shut down the tower which may have impacted Telus service.
It took two hours until the man finally descended the tower voluntarily, around 8:30 pm.
He was immediately taken into custody.
