Doug Ford running in third place after weekend campaign launch: Poll

TORONTO – Doug Ford remains in third place among Toronto mayoral candidates following his official campaign launch on the weekend, according to a new poll.

The survey conducted on Sept. 21 by Mainstreet Technologies show John Tory with 40 per cent voter support, Olivia Chow at 25 per cent and Ford at 23 per cent, with 11 per cent still undecided.

A poll by Ipsos Reid for Global News released last week showed Tory with 43 per cent support among those surveyed, Chow and Ford are statistically tied at 29 per cent for Chow and 28 per cent for Ford.

Mayor Rob Ford’s brother officially kicked off his election run in Etobicoke on Saturday by hitting the streets and greeting voters.

Doug got things rolling with a campaign-HQ speech promising to “get out there and meet the people.”

Ford has said he’s looking forward to his first mayoral debate Tuesday evening, where he’s expected to face off against Olivia Chow and John Tory.

The event is hosted by the York South-Weston community associations and will be moderated by Global News’ Urban Affairs reporter Mark McAllister.

Meanwhile, Rob Ford remains in hospital receiving treatment for a rare form of cancer that prompted the mayor to give up his re-election bid – he’s instead running for a seat on council.

Voters head to the polls Oct. 27.

Mainstreet Technologies polled 2,469 respondents on Sept. 21 with a margin of error of +/- 1.98 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
