CALGARY- Controversial MP Rob Anders has failed in his attempt at a political comeback.
Anders lost the battle to become the conservative nominee for the new federal riding of bow river. Martin Shields, the mayor of Brooks won the nomination race. The results from the nomination race in Bow River were announced Saturday evening.
The Bow River riding is a largely rural area east of Calgary which includes the communities of Strathmore, Brooks, Taber, Vauxhall and Chestermere, where Anders says he now lives.
In the spring, Anders ran for the Conservative nomination in Calgary-Signal Hill, which includes a large part of Calgary West, that Anders represented for 17 years. But he lost to Ron Liepert.
Other candidates in that riding included former Rocky View County Reeve Rolly Ashdown and Mount Royal Professor Gerard Lucyshyn, longtime residents of the riding.
