OTTAWA – One of Ottawa’s major museums is closing for an indefinite period due to unacceptable levels of airborne mould.

The Canada Science and Technology Museum was closed this week for scheduled maintenance and air tests detected the mould.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The museum says it will remain shut down until remedial work is carried out.

Staff working in the museum building were ordered out on Thursday when management learned of the test results.

Museum management says it’s not known how long the museum will remain closed.

The museum is the largest of its kind in Canada.

It contains a wide variety of exhibits involving marine and land transportation, astronomy, communications, space, domestic technology and computer technology.
