The FBI is investigating programs in at least three states that collect human bodies donated for scientific research, medical training and other purposes.
An FBI official in Detroit confirmed that the bureau is looking at an Oregon research centre. Investigators also have raided facilities in Michigan and Arizona.
Authorities won’t go into detail about what they’re examining.
In Oregon, authorities issued a subpoena for records from Legacy Health, a hospital chain that also operates the Legacy Research Institute in Portland. The institute uses cadavers for research and training. A spokesman says Legacy is co-operating.
A body donation service in Arizona said investigators from the FBI and the state attorney general’s office searched its facility in Phoenix this year. In December, federal investigators seized evidence from a body donation service in Detroit.
