TORONTO – Brookfield Properties won’t remove any more bikes from the corner of Yonge Street and Bloor Street, according to Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam.

The councillor tweeted Friday afternoon that Brookfield, despite defending its practice of removing bikes locked to a transit pole outside the Hudson Bay store the day before, has reversed its position.

The issue came to light after Lisa Ferguson alleged the company seized her after she’d chained it to the TTC sign outside of the store.

The company at first said it reserved the right to remove a bike from the “adjacent property” – in this case, a public sidewalk – if it posed “a perceived risk to pedestrians.”
