TORONTO – The city will be installing a new, see-through pedestrian walkway underneath the Gardiner Expressway Saturday.

The pedestrian bridge, designed by WZMH Architects who also designed the CN Tower, is part of the ongoing construction of RBC Waterpark Place located on Queens Quay West between Bay Street and York Street.

The project also marks the first connection of the PATH system to Toronto’s harbourfront and will extend from the Air Canada Centre to 1 York Street. Another section, spanning Harbour Street, is scheduled to be installed next month.

The city is in the middle of a $500 million rehabilitation of the aging Gardiner Expressway  but the bridge won’t get in the way of work underneath the freeway: The bridge moves.

Crews will be able to move the bridge east and west to allow full access to the Gardiner Expressway.
