Semi fire on Okanagan Connector

NEAR BRENDA MINES–It was quite the spectacle on the Okanagan Connector Tuesday evening.

A semi trailer burst into flames near Brenda Mines, bringing westbound traffic on Highway 97C to a screeching halt.

According to police, the driver of the big rig was heading west when he heard noises coming from the engine compartment and quickly realized his vehicle was on fire.

He jumped from the semi to safety just before flames consumed the entire vehicle.

Fire crews rushed to the scene, dousing the rig with water and foam.

The fire did not spread into the roadside grass or brush.

Traffic was lined up for quite a distance as the westbound lane of the connector remained closed while fire crews were at work.
