KELOWNA, B.C. – After overwhelming opposition from neighbours and council to a proposed car wash in the Kelowna’s North Glenmore neighbourhood, the applicant is proposing a new location.

A new application for a car wash on the south-east corner of Glenmore Road and Union Road has been received by the City of Kelowna.

The old location across from Watson Road Elementary on Glenmore Road near Kane Road attracted a full council chamber of opposed neighbours in April during a public hearing.

Urban Planning Manager Ryan Smith says the new application is for a larger property.

Staff and city councilors expressed concerns with the old location’s size and proximity to residential neighbourhoods in denying the original application.

The new car wash application includes vacuums inside the wash bays to reduce noise impact on neighbours, says Smith.

A new public hearing could be scheduled as early as September for the latest car wash application.
