The city says additional committee members will be named in the future.

“Edmonton has built a strong reputation as an outstanding host city,” said Mayor Don Iveson.

“Our bid effort, in partnership with the Alberta government, is focused on convincing Commonwealth Games voters that Edmonton is the best host city in 2022.”

“Alberta has a proven track record of attracting and delivering outstanding sporting events with a committed volunteer base,” said Heather Klimchuk, Alberta minister of culture. “The Government of Alberta has made a commitment to table a motion in the fall to support an Edmonton-led Alberta bid to the Commonwealth Games Federation.”

A logo for the Edmonton bid was also unveiled Tuesday at City Hall.

The logo – which features a trio of ribbons that form an ‘E’ – was designed by Alberta-based ZGM Collaborative Marketing. Each ribbon represents the “pride of national identity, the spirit of our community, and the energy of sport,” the city explained. “The colours symbolize the range of nationalities that exist in our community, as well as the harmony of Commonwealth nations coming together to compete.”
