Former Liberal seeks NDP nomination for fall provincial election

SAINT JOHN – Two years ago, John Wilcox ran against NDP leader Dominic Cardy in the Rothesay riding. Wilcox carried the Liberal banner at the time.

But on Monday, Wilcox confirmed he would run alongside Cardy, under the orange banner.

“We had a lengthy talk before I decided to run in this nomination. I explored the principles that he stands on and I explored what he believes in and I told him what I believe in,” Wilcox said. “And to be quite frank, we’re pretty good.”

Wilcox is a former police officer who ran in 2012 but lost to the-now Minister of Health Ted Flemming. He’s the latest candidate with Liberal ties to run under the NDP banner. Earlier this month, former Liberal MLA Abel LeBlanc submitted his candidacy too.

“We are at a time where we need to reach out to people beyond party lines, to bring an open all inclusive to bring this province to a better place in the country,” he said.
