MAIDSTONE, Sask. – It was a grisly discovery for canoeists on the North Saskatchewan River on Thursday afternoon.
Mounties initially received a private message via Facebook regarding the discovery of a body in the R.M. of Paynton.
RCMP made contact with both canoeists and dispatched officers to the scene.
Human remains were located on the river bank approximately 10 kilometres north of the Paynton ferry crossing.
The unidentified body has been successfully recovered and transported to Saskatoon.
An autopsy has been tentatively scheduled for Tuesday.
RCMP are asking people to use 9-1-1 during emergencies and 306-310-7267 during non-emergencies, as their social media accounts are not always monitored.
