MONTREAL – The arson squad was in Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie early Sunday morning to investigate a firebombing at Pizza Motta, on the corner of Henri-Julien avenue and Mozart Est avenue in Little Italy.

Montreal police received information about a suspicious man seen quickly leaving the area around 3:15 a.m., just after the fire started.

The fire department was called in to extinguish the blaze.

Constable Danny Richer confirmed a Molotov cocktail was found at the scene.

“No arrests have been made yet, but we are still investigating,” he said.

Some reports claim the pizzeria belonged to the family of deceased Mafioso Moreno Gallo, who was considered the Montreal Mafia godfather after Vito Rizzuto was arrested in 2004.

Richer did not confirm this, but insists Montreal police are still gathering information about the crime scene.

They are checking surveillance cameras in the area surrounding the restaurant and are working with a witness to identify the suspect.
