MOOSE JAW, S.K. — Hopes for a national title have come to an end for the Okanagan Rockets, after falling 6-3 to the Prince Albert Minos in the semi-final matchup of the Telus Cup Saturday.

The Rockets defied the odds to get there, beating five time BC Major Midget League champions the North West Giants to win their second franchise provincial title, then taking out the two time reigning national champions, the Red Deer Chiefs, for their first regional title and first berth in the national Telus Cup.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

But the Rockets won’t go home empty handed. Tanner Wishnowski (Kelowna Rockets prospect) was named the tournament’s top forward and top scorer with 14 points, while Liam Finaly, who stole second overall in points with 9, was given the nod as the tournament’s most sportsmanlike player.

The Rockets will play for third overall in the national competition Sunday.
