Decorating Easter eggs naturally. File / Global News

Summer job tips from the YWCA,  student first approach to education, Subway Care for Kids Day, poor health in Ask a Health Pro and decorating Easter eggs naturally were featured on the April 16 Morning New. The team shares their insights on the featured segments.

Kevin gets the low-down on student summer jobs tips from the YWCA

The tips gained from this segment are exceptionally valuable, and in most cases, though the correlation was never touched upon, the contents have universal application, despite our intended target being teens.  I’m not going to argue!  I worked a paper route while I worked at a grocery store, too.

Those early dollars in life made a huge difference for me as a person, teaching me integrity, accountability and the importance of hard work.  C’mon, next generation – prove me right!

Melissa becomes a sandwich expert at Subway Cares for Kids Day

Meeting Chloe today was very inspiring. At the young age of 12, she has gone through so much with her health and continues to struggle with her illness.

She’s been in and out of hospitals in Saskatoon and Calgary with her next visit coming up in Edmonton. Having a children’s hospital in her province of Saskatchewan would not only make life a little easier for her family but would give her a sense of comfort because the environment would be kid-friendly.

Because of Chloe’s experience, she now advocates for a children’s hospital in Saskatchewan. But of course, perfecting the hospital and its resources will cost money.

Subway has done a tremendous job with their Subway Cares for Kids Day. Last year they raised over $37,000.

I hope this year they are able to exceed their goal so that other children, like Chloe, can have the best children’s hospital possible.

Dr. Cory Neudorf explains to Kevin the relationship of poor wages to poor health

It’s a rather alarming statistic that one’s income correlates directly to one’s health. Not that it’s shocking; it makes perfect sense.

I’m a prime culprit; stress punches my immune system in the face (if my immune system had a face…) As discussed, the process is cyclical, or, perhaps a better example would be a spiral; oh, you’re sick because of stress?

Have some more stress. Get more sick.

Jessica learns how the student first approach to education aims to ensure success

It really sounds like the Ministry of Education is doing their part to ensure success in our Saskatchewan Schools.

Russ and Patricia have gone to 18 different communities and talked to more than 500 students, parents and educators to hear what is working and what isn’t. If you have any concerns about your school they want you to not hesitate in voicing your concerns.

Watch the interview for more details!
