UPDATE: Westside Rd. head-on kills two motorcyclists

VERNON — Vernon RCMP have released a few more details dealing with a double fatal crash on Westside Road involving a motorcycle.

The two vehicle crash happened at around 9 p.m. Sunday near Mary’s Emerald Bay Road – west of Vernon.

Police say the crash happened when a southbound SUV attempted to pass another vehicle and collided head on with a northbound motorcycle.

The two occupants on the bike were killed.  The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Police say the two victims were from the North Okanagan.  They add that it does not appear that alcohol was a factor.

RCMP are speaking to witnesses who saw the crash.

The names of the deceased have not been released.

ORIGINAL STORY 

VERNON — There’s little being said  at this point but two people are dead after a crash involving a motorcycle and a car on Westside road.

Police say it happened before seven last night near the intersection with Mary’s Emerald Bay Road north west of Vernon.

Police were just wrapping up their on scene investigation at 4 this morning.

The wreck had closed the highway for several hours.
