Navigating Coachella in sizzling temperatures

Need help planning to see all your favourite Coachella bands? There’s an app for that. But that may not be enough.

It can be a daunting task. With huge crowds and 182 different acts to see over the three day festival, a first-timer needs a little guidance. So I enlisted the help of some B.C. residents who are making a return visit.

North Vancouver’s Tyneesa Tyerman is back for a second straight year. “The crowds aren’t that bad at all, you just keep your head up and an eye on your group at all times when moving from one area to another,” says Tyerman. “The vibes are a little different at every stage and in every tent you visit too.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Eyes up. Keep moving.

I’ve been taking in as many bands as I can, but I’m targeting the weekend headliners. Muse, Queens Of The Stone Age, Beck, Arcade Fire, and for the ‘metalhead’ in me, a little Motorhead on a side stage.

But Coachella is more than just music.

“Meeting people from all over the world, literally all over coming to enjoy music, fashion and food” says Vancouver’s Erin Shum. “I hate crowds but believe me, this kind of event you WILL tolerate it- definitely worth embracing the heat.”

Right! The heat! 34 degrees celsius my iPhone tells me. As a bead of sweat drips down while I try to find out what time Cage The Elephant takes the stage on this app.

Eyes up. Keep moving.

34 degrees.

Hard to believe they used to hold this thing in the late summer heat.
