Dense fog blankets southeastern Manitoba, Red River Valley

WINNIPEG – Dense fog enveloped the Red River Valley and southeastern Manitoba Monday morning, affecting visibility across the region.

The fog was so thick Environment Canada issued a special weather statement about it.

“Visibilities below 800 metres in fog are expected to continue in many areas until temperatures begin to rise late this morning,” the weather agency said.

The areas of Manitoba affected by the fog include:

  • Morden, Winkler, Altona, Emerson, Morris
  • Steinbach, St. Adolphe, Dominion City, Vita, Richer
  • Whiteshell, Lac Du Bonnet, Pinawa
  • Sprague, Northwest Angle Provincial Forest

The fog notice ended shortly after 10 a.m. for:

  • Winnipeg
  • Selkirk, Gimli, Stonewall, Woodlands, Eriksdale
  • Portage la Prairie, Headingley, Brunkild, Carman
  • Dugald, Beausejour, Grand Beach
  • Bissett, Nopiming Provincial Park, Pine Falls

Patches of fog affected visibility on highways and in the city, but no major incidents were reported.

The fog was forecast to dissipate Monday morning and the temperature in Winnipeg was expected to rise to 5 C.
