The cost of protecting the Calgary Zoo from flooding has more than doubled, from $11-million to $25-million; the biggest issue is the groundwater on St. George’s Island.
That, among other things, will be dealt with at a city committee meeting this Tuesday.
Also on the agenda, the city’s more than $900-million list of items it hopes to get provincial funding to boost flood readiness and resilience; many are small projects.
One of the largest is $12-million for a new Calgary Police Service Arrest Processing Centre. Right now it’s located downtown along 7th Avenue, and suffered extensive damage during the flood. The police hope to relocate it to Spy Hill in the NW.
