Two teenagers rescued from fatal Brampton fire

TORONTO – One man is being hailed a hero after rescuing two teenagers from a fatal fire.

The blaze started at a home on Goodwood Road, just off Bramalea near Queen Street in Brampton.

A neighbour’s wife called in the fire to 911 while the man was able to free two teenagers trapped inside the house, Brampton’s fire Chief Andy MacDonald said.

“It was my understanding that the neighbour was out walking when he saw the fire a and heard the boys banging on the back door,” MacDonald said.

Firefighters pulled a man, believed to be the father of the teenagers, from the home without vital signs at around 6:30 a.m. Friday morning.

CPR was performed on the man and he was taken to hospital in grave condition, but was later pronounced dead.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but officials say it may have started on the main floor of the bungalow.

Fire crews are still investigating.
