Calgary named one of the top five ultimate sports cities

CALGARY – Calgary is one of the world’s top five ultimate sports cities, according to SportBusiness International.

The monthly magazine provides insight and analysis into the world of sport.

They’ve been publishing a list of the Ultimate Sports Cities every two years since 2006, but this year is the first time Calgary has been on it.

The Shaw Charity Classic and Tour of Alberta are some of the events hosted in Calgary which helped the city make the prestigious list – along with Spruce Meadows and sporting events at the Calgary Stampede.

In addition, 181 of Canada’s 221 member Olympic team either trained or competed at WinSport’s Winter Sport Institute in Calgary.

The city has hosted 32 World Cup or international winter sport events from 2010 to 2013.
