CALGARY – A local brewery is recalling its glass growlers because of a manufacturing defect which could cause them to leak or even explode.
Village Brewery is asking stores to stop selling the 1.89-litre bottles, and is urging consumers who have purchased them to return them to return them to their brewery.
Consumers who return their growlers will have the cost reimbursed and will be given a 12-pack for their troubles, while the company says it will cover all the costs associated with the removing the product from retail outlets.
The brewery says it knows of one case where a bottle exploded.
“Any agitation or increase in temperature would increase pressure and could result in a defective bottle leaking or exploding,” explains a release issued by Village Brewery.
The company says quality assurance technicians will be visiting the brewery on Wednesday to inspect their existing stock, and further production of growlers will be halted until they are sure quality standards are met.
