REGINA – Police are investigating after firefighters found a badly burned body following a house fire on Wascana St. on Sunday morning.

“Confirmation of identity has not been made, and, unfortunately, at this time, that includes the gender of the deceased,” said Regina Police Service’s Elizabeth Popowich, adding that coroner has asked for an autopsy (expected on Tuesday).

The local fire department responded to the blaze at 6:18 a.m.

Regina police were called to the grisly discovery at the home, near Dewdney Ave. and Lewvan Dr. at 6:54 a.m.

The fire has been contained, but the cause is unknown. Structural concerns are delaying the investigation.

The two departments and coroner are investigating.

A man was handcuffed and put into a police car in front of 1450 Wascana Street home around 9:30 a.m.

“He was somewhat uncooperative and belligerent and he was taken into custody and, for his safety, and the safety of officers and the public, he was placed in handcuffs,” said Popowich.

The man was let go without a charge, and police say the incident has no connection to the fire.

Police don’t yet know how many people normally live in the home.
