COOKE CITY, Mon. – A 48-year-old Saskatchewan man died in a snowmobiling crash south of the U.S. border on Thursday.

Around noon, Yellowstone National Park dispatch received a report of a snowmobile collision in the area of Abundance Flat, which is near Cooke City, Montana.

A member of Park County Sheriff’s search and rescue unit arrived on scene within minutes and initiated CPR.

Life-saving measures were unsuccessful and the snowmobiler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members have confirmed the deceased is 48-year-old Brian MacPherson of Martensville, Saskatchewan and formerly of North Battleford.

Initial police reports indicate the victim was attempting to jump a creek on his snowmobile at a high rate of speed and then crashed.

The Park County Sheriff’s office, National Park Service and the United States Forest Service are investigating the accident.
