Saskatchewan snowmobiler dies in avalanche near Blue River, B.C.

A man has died in an avalanche while snowmobiling north of Blue River, B.C. Mapcarta

A 36-year-old Saskatchewan man died in an avalanche north of Blue River, B.C. while snowmobiling with friends Friday night, according to Mounties.

Clearwater RCMP said they were called to the scene at around 7:20 p.m. after a group of snowmobilers were caught in an avalanche in the back bowl of Redsand Mountain.

Two snowmobilers were buried in the avalanche and the others raced to dig them out. One person was rescued and a second man from Lloydminster was located but died at the scene, Mounties said.

Clearwater Search and Rescue and the BC Coroners Service were not able to enter the site due to the high avalanche risk.

Crews were flown to the scene by helicopter Saturday morning.

The victim has not been identified.
