The Montreal-based Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs has called on the PQ to reject Mailloux’s beliefs.

Marois said Friday that she supports Mailloux’s candidacy and made it clear her party is not anti-Semitic.

Marois told a news conference that Mailloux had long taken a position on these issues, but that they are her words.

The party leader added Mailloux also supports the PQ’s secular platform.

Mailloux is running in Gouin, a hotly contested Montreal riding the PQ lost in 2012 after holding it since 1976.

A Change.org petition has been started requesting Mailloux to step down.
