Metro Vancouver pleads guilty to releasing raw sewage in water around Stanley Park

Metro Vancouver has now pleaded guilty to releasing raw sewage in the water surrounding Stanley Park.

In the summer of 2011, an estimated 650,000 cubic metres of raw sewage poured out of an overflow pipe near Brockton Point.

It took crews almost four hours to stop the spill.

The district says the issue was a technical problem. It made changes to prevent such a spill from happening a month after the incident.

It’s not clear yet what penalties will be imposed in this case.
