Despite this week’s warm up, there’s still 30 Regina homes without water due to frozen pipes.
At least eight of those cases are city pipes. Crews were trying to fix the issues at six of those locations Tuesday, and the other two will be addressed Wednesday.
There are also 58 leaking pipes throughout the city. None are affecting water service.
The city says they have crews working 24-7 to resolve all these water issues.
Experts say this year’s frost has reached 7 1/2 feet underground, something not seen in decades.
The deep frost followed by excessive snowfall and a fast melt is being blamed for the breaks and leaks.
City crews are dealing with a messy scene over at the snow dump as well.
They may have to close the site because of deteriorating ground conditions.
They warn this could happen on very short notice over the next few days.
