CALGARY – Firefighters were forced to relocate about 60 residents at a southeast seniors’ complex on Tuesday over carbon monoxide concerns.

Crews were called to an assisted living facility in the 2900 block of 26th Avenue S.E. around 5 a.m.

When they arrived, firefighters found carbon monoxide levels to be high, and moved residents to an unaffected area of the building.

The cause of the CO was found to be a rooftop air unit, which has been shut down until repairs can be made.

Fire crews ventilated the building, bringing CO levels back down to zero.

EMS assessed one resident while on scene, but no one was injured.

Residents were eventually allowed back into their rooms.
