LAC ETCHEMIN, Que. – A 47-year-old man is dead following a skiing accident about 60 kilometres south of Quebec City.
Provincial police said the man slammed into a lamppost at high speed after being hit by another skier on Thursday at Mont Orignal near Lac-Etchemin.
The unidentified man was pronounced dead at hospital.
Police spokesperson Christine Coulombe said that the skier was experienced.
The CEO of the ski resort, Micheline Cloutier, said that weather conditions at the time of the accident were mild.
She said the crash occurred on an intermediate level slope and this was the first death at the site since it opened in 1974.
Mont Orignal gets between 30,000 and 35,000 skiers each year.
