Canucks react to Roberto Luongo trade

Reaction is pouring in this morning, from the Vancouver Canucks and their fans, after Roberto Luongo was traded to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday.

Thirty-four-year-old Luongo spent eight years with the Canucks, and said the news he was traded was sudden.

“I thought my contract was untradable,” said Luongo Tuesday night. “I was ready to play tonight. I had moved on [from the Heritage Classic], I was ready to go, so I wasn’t expecting this to happen, especially not today.”

Eddie Lack is now the Canucks’ number one goalie, and he reacted to the news of Luongo’s trade with shock as he was originally not scheduled to play Tuesday night against the Phoenix Coyotes.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“Weird day to be honest, shocked obviously,” he said. “I was getting ready to nap a little bit before the game when they called me and told me I’m playing, so it’s been a very weird weird day, and not very good either.”

Luongo tweeted about Lack after the news broke:

And Lack also tweeted:

“I sat with him on the plane for every flight, six, seven, eight years,” said Bieksa, “I won a lot of money off him in cards so that hurts, but yeah, we’ll have to move on here and we’re going to see him in a couple of weeks so it won’t be that long.”

The NHL trade deadline is at 12 p.m. today and with Luongo already traded, all eyes are looking at Ryan Kesler to see if he will be moving to another team as well.
