GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands – A 46-year-old Canadian tourist in the Cayman Islands has apparently drowned while snorkeling off a popular beach.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service on Monday identified the dead vacationer as Timothy Mullin of Toronto. He and his mother arrived in the British Caribbean territory Saturday.

Investigators say Mullin went snorkeling alone Sunday afternoon in Grand Cayman, the territory’s main island. About an hour later, two divers found his motionless body on the ocean floor in about six metres of water.

The divers brought Mullin back to shore and alerted rescuers. An ambulance rushed him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say there appears to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
