KELOWNA – Freshly back from the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, Silver Medalist Kelsey Serwa is helping other athletes achieve their dreams.
Serwa is starting the KSER bursary–a bursary in her name that will help student graduates who are pursuing athletics. Serwa says she hopes to raise 100-thousand dollars to get the bursary started.
The 24-year old Kelowna native came back on Thursday to a huge crowd of supporters at the Kelowna Airport.
After a speech and taking time to high-five some of her youngest fans–Serwa talked to reporters about her big win as well as her bursary goal.
She says more funding is badly needed in this country to help young athletes succeed.
“I think the hard part is there is a lack of funding in younger divisions so even though someone has all the talent in the world and dedication they may not be able to continue the sport because they can’t afford it so that is where we can help bridge the gap, ” says Serwa.
