Dramatic photos show drivers using CPR to save baby on side of road

TORONTO – A photojournalist captured dramatic images of a frantic woman performing life-saving mouth-to-mouth CPR on a baby by the side of a busy Florida highway Thursday afternoon.

Traffic came to a standstill on the Dolphin Expressway after a woman jumped out of her vehicle screaming for help after her  five-month-old nephew stopped breathing, according to The Miami Herald.

Motorists stuck in the traffic jam rushed to help Pamela Rauseo, who was holding the baby in her arms. Among them was Miami Herald’s staff photographer  Al Diaz, who was behind Rauseo when she stopped .

“I heard screaming, screaming that the baby can’t breathe,” Diaz told the newspaper.

The photographer ran along the highway until he found  a police officer and told him about the infant in distress.

Fellow motorist Lucila Godoy left her 3-year-old son in  the car to help Rauseo revive the infant, according to the Herald.

Diaz captured gut-wrenching images as Rauseo performed CPR on the lifeless baby.

“As a photojournalist you want to capture these images, but as a human being you want to get help,” Diaz told the Daily News.

Officer Amauris Bastidas assisted with the CPR and the trio was able to get the baby breathing as emergency crews arrived at the scene.

Rauseo said her nephew was born prematurely and had respiratory issues.

The infant was rushed to local hospital and is said to be in stable condition.
