TORONTO – A condominium building in Mississauga has some very unhappy owners as residents have been without hot water since Sunday.
“You have about over a thousand people who live in a building this size with 32 floors and about 500 units. There definitely should be a contingency plan,” said Shane McNeil, a condominium owner.
Residents of the condo, which is located just a few blocks from Mississauga’s city hall on Duke of York Blvd., have been without hot water for three days.
“It’s really frustrating you know, you can’t wash clothes, the kids can’t take a bath and they have to go to school early in the morning,” said Bineet Sadana, a condo resident.
The owners of the building told Global News that two hot water boilers broke down over the weekend and they were working to fix the problem.
Water issues can be a problem for any condo owner, and how quickly maintenance issues are resolved can be determined by the chosen condo board.
“You want a competent condo board to represent the condo owners. People who know what to do, to get involved with suppliers, service providers,” said lawyer Jeffrey Gray.
Residents at the Mississauga condo say not having hot water is the latest in a long string of problems in the building, including broken elevators.
“We’ve had this issue with the water, way too many other issues with the elevators not working,” said McNeil.
Owners are reminded that even though they may own a condo, if something goes wrong, they can be at the mercy of management.
“It’s all supply and demand. At times of great demand for units the management company can dictate terms,” said Gray.
