Canadian Mike Riddle has won silver in the first-ever men’s Olympic ski halfpipe event.

After a disappointing first run, the 27-year-old from Sherwood Park, Alberta, achieved a score of 90.60 on his second run in the finals at Sochi, edging ahead of French skier Kevin Rolland to take silver.

Rolland took bronze with a score of 88.60 and American David Wise took gold with a best run of 92.00. It was a good thing for Wise that only competitors’ best run counts: He fell in his second, receiving a score of only 3.40.

Riddle’s teammate Noah Bowman came in 5th place with a score of 80.40 and fellow Canadian Justin Dorey came in 12th with a score of 20.40. Matt Margetts of Penticton, B.C. didn’t make it to the final and ranked 15th overall.
