QUEBEC – The Quebec legislature resumes sitting Tuesday afternoon, with talk of an April provincial election swirling in the air.
It will also mark the return of Quebec Liberal Leader Philippe Couillard to the national assembly.
The former health minister easily won a seat in a byelection last December in a Montreal riding that is a party stronghold.

Couillard has been calling on the minority Parti Quebecois government in recent days to delay calling an election until it presents a budget.
He said Quebecers are entitled to know the truth about the state of the province’s finances.

Recent polls have suggested the PQ has gained in popular support, which Premier Pauline Marois could see as an opportunity to secure a majority mandate in the next election.
If re-elected with a majority, Marois has promised her party would consult Quebecers on whether the province should hold another referendum on independence.
