National style: Team Canada in Hudson’s Bay during opening ceremony parade

With the torch lit, the numerous Russian historical references made and a few minor glitches, the Sochi Olympics are officially underway.

Representatives of Canada’s 220-athlete team marched into Fisht Olympic Stadium, led by torch-bearer Hayley Wickenheiser, during the Parade of Nations.

“To represent the best of Canada is such an honour, it’s chilling,” Wickenheiser said. “There is so much excitement.”

Team Canada looked undeniably sharp in red and black coats and hats designed by Hudson’s Bay.

Canada’s female athletes wore black turtlenecks and V-neck sweaters, while the men sported tailored white dress shirts, wool cardigans and red and white striped ties.

When unveiled in October, Dimitri Soudas, executive director of the Canadian Olympic Committee, tweeted that all HBC clothing worn by the country’s Olympians is made in Canada, follows criticism of HBC’s 2008 uniforms, which were mostly made in China.

In 2010, Team Canada’s logo came under political fire for resembling the Conservative Party logo.

HBC provided Team Canada’s uniforms for the Torino, Beijing, Vancouver and London Olympic Games.
